Your Moment of Zen (part 1)

Got a deep one today that I really felt some of you would like. This is a part of an article in the July 2004 Bass Player magazine. The author is Stephen Jay, solo artist and bass player for Weird Al Yankovic.

"While living in West Africa, I was exposed to an ancient and amazing view of music. In many traditional West African cultures, music is seen as a kind of life form - a being that spans the universe and all time. It is an individual with a mind of it's own, one that possesses a will and volition identical to man's, only much bigger. Music moves players as they move their instruments. Inward and outward, this relationship extends forever; you are to your instrument what music is to you. According to African animist beliefs, all objects are alive - nothing is inanimate, including musical instruments. Musicians bring their instruments to life in the same way that some greater force brings the musicians to life. Music occupies a place far above human mortals and the musicians it chooses to 'use' ."

Deep stuff indeed.

Tired Iron

The ToneDogs played yesterday at the Southern California Gas Company's (Sempra Energy) Tired Iron Custom Car and Motorcycle Show at the Gas Company facility in Pico Rivera. A great event benefiting the leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Southern California. There was a great turnout and everyone had a lot of fun. I'll post some pictures as soon as I get 'em.

Some new items are on eBay this week and I'll have some new design Tonebender T-Shirts ready in about 2 weeks. Look for a new design for the Tonebender Website soon as well - a rather krafty individual is working on it as I write this. As usual your comments and suggestions are welcome for changes and improvements.

Carpet Abuse

It has come to this 'bender's attention that there is a new band annoying the neighbors in the Huntington Beach area. Calling themselves "Buzdawg" one can only speculate as to what these guys are all about. As more information on this band developes, I'll be passing along to you all via this page. If anyone out there has an actual photograph of "Buzdawg" please email it to me. A set list of the songs they play would also garner interest with some of the viewers of this site. Any rumors, half-truths, or even made-up stories concerning the members of "Buzdawg" would be welcome as well.
I hope to actually see this band perform sometime this fall and will post a review as soon as it happens. Until then we can only imagine the abuse.....

What the hell is this?

Ok, a couple of you have asked "WTF?" when you came here. To put it simply, this is another computer-geek tool that I felt I've missed out on for the last couple of years. Web-Logging or "Blogging" is an online journal of sorts - an interactive one at that since you can post comments to the posts in real time. Right now anyone can comment unless it gets ugly or out of control - then I'll lock it down to just members. It's easy to get set up with your own page if you want. It's a lot like having your own "school newspaper" where you can put that "freedom of speech thing" to some good use. Why should just high-paid journalism majors and political commentary wackos have all the fun? ANY IDIOT CAN DO THIS. Guess I'm proving that right now, huh? Here's a website article that tells a little more about "Blogging" from - . I'm looking forward to sharing some thoughts and images with you folks and hearing back what you think. Could be fun and (shudder) educational.

Something New Kids....

You know I like a good rant (or rave) and this seems to be a good place to do it. It will also be a fun spot for you all to check and see what's new at Tonebender Products and keep posted on the ToneDogs gigs and whatnot. I swear the band name existed years before the business name. The two came together last year when 6 planets aligned and the earth's magnetic fields reversed for one Saturday in September. It's been a great fit and a fun year making some fantastic new friends and playing some of the best music I've done to date. I don't want to jinx it by going too far with this rave....
